Crocheting again

Sorry I haven't been on here for a while. I know that there are a couple of religious followers that check my blog every day so I thought I'd write this post so as not to disappoint them anymore than I may have done already!

Well it's been a whirlwind of a last couple of weeks here. The puppies are now over 5 weeks old so the care that the require has stepped up a lot. With the early morning demanding feeds several times a day, I can't think that it's too dissimilar to having a baby especially when they wake you at 4.30 in the morning!

But apart from that, they are such a joy to have and I'm loving it as you can see above! And that's just as well because at the moment, only one of them has been sold despite adverts up for them on a couple of sites. I'm sure I'll get them sold eventually but at the moment, it's looking like we might have them for a while!

College has also been a busy time as I've just been in the throws of final piece week for my latest assignment. I'm keen to show you my piece which is now all finished so watch out for that in another post.

And I don't know how, but somehow I've managed to actually pick up my crochet hook again (after blowing the cobwebs of it as I haven't crocheted or knitted for ages) and create a little gift for someone at the college who was unfortunately leaving. 

 Flicking through crochet books, I found this little owl that I've always wanted to make so did for this lady at college.

I was surprised at how I hadn't lost the flow of crocheting at all. I guess it's one of those skills that you don't lose, like riding a bike! It was great to be doing some crocheting again. It took me a nice evening watching some catch up TV and I think the gift went down well.

Adipose twins!

Here then are my latest woolly creations.

For Doctor Who fans out there you may recognise them as adipose but the pattern I worked off calls them fat babies for the purpose of dodging around the copyright!

I made these adipose as presents for two young girls so I'm not breaking the law or anything as these were'nt made for the intent of making money out of them.

These little blobs of fat are crocheted for a change. I've been doing a lot of knitting recently so it was good to swap needles for a hook!

I gave them to the girls today actually. They loved them! I was a bit worried that they wouldn't know what they were as they don't look hugely like the adipose on tv. But them being avid Dr Who fans, they knew straight away. That was a relief. When I showed them to someone else, they thought they were Tic Tac men!

I made little labels to go on them too as a way of gift wrapping and so they would know which one was who's. One of the girls is totally crazy on pink so of course the pink label just had to go to her!!

I hope that they enjoy them!

Knit one, crochet one!

Boy it's been a busy few weeks!

I've just come back from a Christian camp called Soul Survivor and on top of that, managed to do lots of crafty projects.

The two little soft toys above I made actually just before Soul Survivor but this has been the first proper chance I've had to tell you about them. The hedgehog (which I name Harriet) was crocheted and the purple penguin knitted. I must be a lot faster at crocheting as the hedgehog only took a few hours but the penguin on the other hand took about a day in total.

It seems quite funny that I should be faster at crocheting as I haven't been doing it that long compared to my knitting. Maybe I just find it easier because you only use one tool to crochet so you're more hands in there.

Anyway, on that little rambling side thought, where was I?

Harriet the hedgehog has gone to her new owner already. I went to visit my aunt who lives in Wales the other day so I made Harriet as a gift to her.

The penguin still has it's residence here with me at the moment but will hopefully go to my other aunt who is, as you may have guessed, is crazy about purple! I'm not sure when I'll see her next so the penguin will have to take a trip in a jiffy bag I think.

I'm hoping that all you lot are having a good summer. I know the weather is a bit of a wash out most of the time here but hopefully you've had some good times anyway and even mangaged to get away to somewhere nice!

Mini chicks

These are the chicks that I had to make for a special order. The lady wanted mini ones rather than the 'big' chicks so she could hang them better on her Easter tree. I still need to make one more girl chick and then add loops on them so they can swing on the tree to their hearts content!

I thought that because they were mini they would take half the time to make but I was wrong! They actually took the same amount of time if not longer due to the fact that they were so fiddley in their miniture forms. But I got there in the end and I think they'll be perfect as decorations.

I took the picture of them in my hand so that you could really see just how small they are!!

Here are the little chicks I said I'd post once I had a good number of them to show!

I'm getting faster at making them now when I want to. I have to be completely focused in order to make one quickly though and this leaves me feeling pretty drained afterwards. I made two in one go once and I felt all chicked out! They're only small but they do take quite a bit of work.

Jenna does her bit to help out whenever she can. Although this I hasten to add is her version of help not mine! Whenever she gets the chance she loves to grab the ball of wool which is hard to pull from her mouth as it gets all tangled up in her teeth! Yesterday, she ran in from the garden with mud on her. So I now have yellow wool with bits of mud in it!! And I thought it was just cats who go crazy for balls of wool!!

TJ the crocheted monkey

So I've finished the monkey the other day! Cory the knitted monkey didn't get much playtime with him though as TJ went to live with some very special people as soon as I'd made him! I'm a bit frustrated with how you can sort of see the stuffing inside him. I realised that I did a different stitch so that caused the 'visableness'. But hey! At least I learnt from it and I now don't do that certain stitch anymore on my stuffed toys. I've been working on making lots of chicks to sell for charity in the past few days. I've made 4 so far so I need to get a crack on if I want to make a good amount of money!! They don't take long to do so hopefully I can show you a picture of the lot of them in the next few days.

1st of March but a heck of a lot happened last month!

I'm back and this time, I'm determined to make it 'for good' so to speak I promise!!

Things have been going great with my puppy... well sort of!

I've only had her a month and already she's had to have two big trips to the vets. The first trip was because of an accident involving a certain wiggy waggy tail and a door. Yep, you can guess what happened there can't you! So that turned out expensive because she needed an operation to put stitches in. And just this weekend whilst we were away for a family party, Jenna took a really bad turn and suddenly required lots care. What with it being Sunday evening, she went and stayed at the vets house but he later had to take her to the surgery for a better check out as she had worsened by the late evening. He did an operation on her to insert a camera down her lungs. Anyway he found that she had fluid or a blood clot on her lungs so that needed lots of treatment and x-rays.

It was so sweet when we went to collect her today though. We went in and found her in one of the cages lying flat out all sorry for herself. When she saw it was me, she literally just jumped into my arms and gave me a big lick and hug. This little reunion actually made my mum cry!!

In other news, I have actually managed to make a start on the Amigurumi I was talking about. I've started off first making a monkey 'compa-nion'

for Cory! The head actually now has a body but because of everything that has happened in the last few days, I haven't gotten round to taking a picture of this development!

Long time no see!

Hello!!

Yes I am still alive and my little puppy is doing well and keeping me on my toes all the time! As I predicted, with Jenna around I haven't had much time to do any crafts or anything. I've found the only thing I can properly do is to read so I've been doing that in any spare time I have. I'm reading a book called Eragon at the moment which I am thoroughly enjoying. For anyone who likes high fantasy I would really recommend it.

Plans to start crafting again are underway though so hopefully I'll be posting regularly again. I've found a craft that is quick to do so that sounds perfect for the time span I have right now! It's called Amigurumi which is the art of crocheting cute little animals or inanimate objects. I'm still fairly new to crocheting so I've bought a book on how to do it and a book called Amigurumi World. So looking forward to them coming through my letter box soon!
